With the portfolio 30% net short, an 11% up day in the S&P500 wasn’t exactly the best start to the new month. With few long positions to speak of, it will take some time to get into a position of reducing the shorts. And further upside will only be negative for the current mix. Natural gas pulled back sharply from last week’s short-covering spike, so we’re now back to a full long position there.
